China sulfuric acid industry chain spring exchange meeting

From March 27th to 28th, the spring market exchange meeting of sulfur industry chain in 2025, sponsored by China Sulfuric Acid Industry Association, was held in Jinan, Shandong. More than 150 speakers and representatives from upstream and downstream production enterprises, trading companies, consulting institutions, professional associations and professional media in the sulfur industry chain attended the meeting, and our company sent personnel to attend the meeting.

In 2024, the national average price of sulfuric acid was 295 yuan/ton, an increase of 56% over the previous year. By the end of 2024, China's total sulfuric acid production capacity was 141 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%. In 2024, China exported 2.683 million tons of sulfuric acid, an increase of 175,000 tons or 7.0% compared with the same period of last year. The top three export countries are Chile (1.28 million tons), Morocco (320,000 tons) and India (310,000 tons).

In recent months, the global price of sulfur and sulfuric acid has been rising continuously. Acuity predicts that the global sulfuric acid production will be 329 million tons and the consumption will be 308 million tons in 2025. The insiders believe that the supply may be lower than expected, mainly due to the limited supply of copper concentrate and zinc concentrate, as well as the decline of liquid sulfur production and sulfur-based sulphuric acid production in Europe. New smelters in India and Indonesia delayed production. Some smelters in Japan, the Philippines and Australia closed or reduced production. Saudi Arabia's demand is strong, Australia and India's demand is declining, and Indonesia's imports are flat. Norway's production capacity will increase in 2025. Turkey actively exports, but there is an export license problem. Demand in Congo and Zambia increased. Latin American demand is stable, and Brazil's import demand may decrease. Peru exports about 1.1 million tons to Chile every year. In 2024, China replaced Peru as Chile's largest supplier. Chile's new supply potential is limited, and demand is expected to be stable in the next few years. The growth of nickel production in Indonesia has impacted Australian producers, the demand for acid imports in the West Bank has increased, the local supply in the East Bank is sufficient, and a number of electric vehicle supply projects are advancing. The new smelter in Indonesia relies on the supply of copper concentrate, and the production capacity of sulfuric acid from sulfur is expanded, reducing the dependence on sulfuric acid imports.
